MAHIE GILL | LATEST UPDATE TO MAHIE GILL | LATEST UPDATE TO ACTRESS

Will Mahie Gill’s career be sabotaged by RGV?

The Dev.D girl has been going great guns with her offbeat roles and acting talent. But the good times could soon end for her…

The story behind Ramgopal Varma’s next, Not a Love Story, based on the Neeraj Grover murder case, is well known, especially after the recent verdict pronouncement. This RGV movie stars Deepak Dobriyal and Mahie Gill, who are playing the main characters of those accused in the real-life killing. TV actor Ajay Gehi plays the victim, Neeraj Grover. Rumour has it that Ramu wanted to cast better known faces and actors but, thanks to the controversial nature of the story, even his (rumoured) muse Nisha Kothari refused to do the role that eventually went to Mahie. Both Deepak (last seen in a comic avatar in Tanu Weds Manu) and Mahie Gill (who played Paro in Anurag Kashyap’s cult film Dev.D) have just begun to find recognition in Bollywood. If reports are to be believed, this film might sabotage their careers, as they could either become typecast in negative roles or, worse, not be cast in anything at all. Insiders quote the examples of Seema Biswas and Nirmal Pandey, who got stuck in their respective ruts after Shekhar Kapoor’s Bandit Queen. Bollywood has many other instances where a negative role has cost an actor his or her career. Going by the trailer of Ramu’s film, it seems most likely that whoever watches Not a Love Story will come out hating the characters played by Deepak and Mahie. And that could spell doom for their futures in Bollywood. What do you think?
