Akshay Kumar: Will he make it big in Hollywood?

Despite a string of flops, he has big plans for his production house

Akshay Kumar’s production house Hari Om Productions has had a very bad run in Bollywood. Now desperate situations call for desperate measures and it is heard that Akki has planned a western venture called Breakaway, collaborating with First Take Entertainment. The movie stars biggies like stand-up comedian Russell Peters and 10000 BC fame Camilla Belle. It will be helmed by Hollywood director Robert Lieberman and is being pitched as a one-of-a-kind international venture. Breakaway is a cross-cultural hockey drama set in the Indo-Canadian community in suburban Toronto, Canada. Doesn’t it already sound like a rehash of Chak De! India and Namastey London? The movie is also touted as a full-of-action, colourful, humorous, heart-felt musical, like most of Akki’s duds. To make matters worse, the Khiladi’s Hollywood outing is being classified as Bend It Like Beckham and Slumdog Millionaire with a hero caught between a family’s traditional expectations and a dream to make it big in the national sport of an adopted country. But wait, wasn’t that Patiala House? Apparently Akki hasn’t given up, especially being the sportsman that he is. Wethinks it is probably the right time for him to realise that sports-based films aren’t a superhit idea after all.
