Doesn’t the name sound like a mix of the men who make Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone smile?
When we first heard the name, we couldn’t help but wonder – who is this guy with such an interesting name? On digging a little deeper, we discovered that Shahid Mallya is the man who has sung the soulful Rabba main to marr gaya song from the Shahid Kapur-Sonam Kapoor starrer, Mausam. The song, composed by Pritam and written by Irshad Kamil, is inching up to the top of the charts. What amused us was that there are two versions of the song and the other one is sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Surprisingly, Mallya’s voice is used in the theatrical trailer and not Rahat’s version; and the surprise comes from the fact that Rahat is a must-have voice for any successful Bollywood film soundtrack these days. This reminded us of the time when something similar happened between Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan inAkele Hum Akele Tum. We are wondering who decided to defy convention by using Mallya’s voice over Rahat’s. Was it composer Pritam or director Pankaj Kapur who took the final call? Now we are waiting to see whose version of the song makes it to the film when it releases. We are not complaining, since we totally love both versions.
