The MBKD director revealed he would read the ads whenever he was bored
Despite the similarities between their titles, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has nothing to do with Barbara Mori’s My Brother’s Wife. It’s family entertainment all the way through. And everyone who has to change their minds, does it before the wedding. So don’t worry, Yash Raj Films has not suddenly decided to find inspiration in a certain risque Spanish film. In fact, the inspiration for MBKD comes from a totally different area altogether. Ali Abbas Zafar, the director of the Imran Khan-Katrina Kaif-Ali Zafar starrer, revealed recently that he was inspired to make the film after reading the matrimonial advertisements in newspapers. “You must have seen these ads where everyone is looking for the ideal Indian woman. Often, when I would get bored reading the newspaper, I would read these ads. I always found them entertaining – ads that went ‘Kayasth boy wants a 26-year-old beautiful, talented girl…’ I felt that if I made a film about this – where a guy is looking for the ideal, Indian woman, it would definitely have a lot of spice. I think it will appeal to a wide audience. I am equally excited and nervous. It’s my first film. I am happy with the way the film has turned out.” Hopefully for Ali Abbas and the rest of them, the audiences will be happy too
