Once again, both Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra are working on movies in the same genre. Looks like these friends don’t mind the competition
While Dharma Productions is busy working night and day on Karan Johar’s Student of The Year, launching three newcomers – David Dhawan’s son Varun, Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia and Siddharth Malhotra – the Yash Raj camp is preparing for Virus Diwan that will launch Boney Kapoor’s son Arjun. Insiders say both these films are college capers with American Pieaspirations. And if one believes what is heard in trade circles, both films will release around the same time. If that is true, then hats off to KJo-Adi for not letting their personal rapport spill into their professional involvements. Looks like these friends are okay with a healthy dose of competition! However, we are curious to find out who copied whom…but that’s another story. Anyways, this is not the first time the filmmaker-friends have made movies on similar lines. In the past, Karan produced Rensil D’Sliva’s Kurbaan and Adi backed Kabir Khan’s New York. Both were inspired by the 9/11 terror attacks in the United States. This time Karan’s gonna do it first – he has begun shooting for Student of the Year. Meanwhile, there is plenty of action on in the YRF camp – young Arjun Kapoor has been caught sharing more than friendly vibes with another YRFfind, Anushka Sharma; he has time to spare, since his debut film is reported to be facing some road blocks. Well, if all goes well and the film goes on the floor, we will need to wait and watch to see who does a better job at churning out the desi version of American Pie! And if not, do we have dosti to blame?
